I had never heard the term rain rot in the same sentence with horses. In my mind it sounded like something to do with the rain rotting wood. What I found was that it is a bacterium called Dermatophilus ssp. It is already on the horse and doesn’t cause any difficulty until it rains. Hence the name rains rot. I can’t wait to go for a ride on my horse. The past few days I had had to work and now I have a day off. I jump out of bed with anticipation of spending time with Poppy. I look forward to enjoying the outdoors and soaking up some nature.
I look out the window and my plan to ride is dripping into puddles in the yard. Yep, I will certainly soak up some nature today. It’s raining. I like the rain at times. The gentle drops that touch my face are a cleansing from nature. A downpour is miserable and just gets me and my horse soaked. A thunderstorm is dangerous. Riding your horse in the rain can be a refreshing experience and one I don’t mind indulging in on occasion.
